In 1942 the Union of Cooperatives of the Camp of the Province of Tarragona to Reus was constituted. The entity was created with the aim of bringing together all the farmers of the province.
Three years later, Unió acquired the first facilities on Tivoli Street in the city of Reus, popularly known as "La Exportadora". In 1945 the Priorat Designation of Origin was born. That year, Unió bottled its first bottle of DO Priorat wine. In 1963 the Union of Cooperatives of the Camp of the Province of Tarragona is separated from the State and becomes a private entity.
Two years later, the construction of the "Roureda" in Reus was completed, where vats with a capacity of 28,000 hectoliters and a packaging line of 2,500 bottles / hour were installed. Another significant date must be set in 1970, when Cellers Unió exported its first bottle of wine. The entity has played a very important role in the development of the wine sector in its territory of influence, as well as in the consolidation of the designations of origin of which it is part.
Currently, it is part of a Qualified Designation of Origin (DOQ), of 5 Denominations of Origin (DO) and coordinates the efforts of 20 thousand farming families. It has 20 associated cooperatives and 6 own wineries.
Cellers Unió stands out for an extensive history that exceeds three quarters of a century creating wines and cavas that show the qualities and characteristics of the vineyards and the farmers who have pampered them during this time. A large group of farmers who have given value to the cooperative system as a model of socio-economic management.
Its wines give prominence to the varieties of each area among which stand out as red varieties Grenaches, Carignan, Merlot, Syrah, Tempranillo. Cabernet Sauvignon, Monastrell and Trepat. As for the white varieties, the white grenaches, the Macabeo and the bunches from the Pedro Ximènez vines stand out. To highlight also the magnificent vermouths and sweet wines -moscatell and rancid wine- that it produces.
