An ideal Garnacha to pair with all kinds of Mediterranean cuisine (rice dishes), pasta, white meat, fish, shellfish and soft cheeses.
Occasion
Talking about a young white Garnacha introduces us to a range of wines that are usually classified as 'still' wines. But the Terra Alta grapes give it a special added value. It's a wine without too many complications that will be perfect whether you prefer to drink it by the glass, as an aperitif or with a tapas-based meal. But you can go even further and serve it with a seafood rice or some oysters. You won't be disappointed at all.
In the vineyard
Vines that have grown in chiefly calcareous soils with some clay. The Cierzo and Ábrego winds favour the ripening of the grape, cooling it down during the hot summer and preventing any diseases. The vines grow on irregular terraces poor in organic matter.
In the winery
Grape meticulously nurtured in the vineyard, picked by hand and pressed gently. Vinification process during which various fermentations are carried out at different temperatures to extract as much as possible from the Garnacha. Selected yeasts.
Cellers Unió
In 1942 the Union of Cooperatives of the Camp of the Province of Tarragona to Reus was constituted. The entity was created with the aim of bringing together all the farmers of the province.
Three years later, Unió acquired the first facilities on Tivoli Street in the city of Reus, popularly known as "La Exportadora". In 1945 the Priorat Designation of Origin was born. That year, Unió bottled its first bottle of DO Priorat wine. In 1963 the Union of Cooperatives of the Camp of the Province of Tarragona is separated from the State and becomes a private entity.
Do Terra Alta
The so-called Customs of Orta (1296) and Miravet (1319) already regulated the sale of wine from the region. But it wasn't until the late nineteenth century that winegrowing became widespread. With the phylloxera plague, the demand from producers for DO Terra Alta [1] grapes increased, first from the French and then from the neighbouring regions that today are DO Tarragona and DOQ Priorat. In the early twentieth century, the organisation of cooperatives was a revolution.
