The first vintage of the Montsec Astronómico was produced in 2018. "The attack of the Cabernet Franc was of excellent quality and we knew that it had to be given a special treatment", comments the winery. Coupage: 95% Cabernet Franc from the Montsec Valleys (490 metres above sea level) 5% Merlot from the Montsec Valleys (450 metres above sea level).
Type of wine
Designation of origin
Do Costers Del Segre
Style of Wine
Intense and elegant
Vivid deep purple-red colour.
Crisp nose of aromatic crunchy red berries, scented and spicy.
Ripe texture of fresh red berries, pickles, aromas of ageing. Long, crisp, lingering and mellow.
This wine does a great job promoting the territory. Prompted by the great colour (dark as the night and bright as the stars), it inspired the idea of doing something together with the Montsec Astronomical Park. In short, with food by day, a glass (or two) by night.
Between 14 and 16 degrees
A wine that can be accompanied by a whole host of foods. One of the perfect culinary pairings would be a roast goat shank with plums and wild mushrooms. Success guaranteed! Of course, it can also be served with other white meats and soft cheeses.
Take note of the winery's philosophy: "with sixty years of history, we don't sit back and accept that everything has already been invented". A perfect philosophy for life. Well, that's what this wine is like: it can accompany any dish based around wild mushrooms or it can just as easily be enjoyed by the glass under the stars. The name is no coincidence.
In the vineyard
Vineyards located in the subzone of Artesa de Segre, in the upper part of the DO Costers del Segre, north of the Noguera region and at the foot of the Sierra del Montsec.
In the winery
Fermentation begins spontaneously with the same yeasts from the vineyard, at a controlled temperature. It will then mature for three months in new 300-litre French oak barrels.
Celler Montsec Artesa
The Celler Montsec is a section of the Cooperativa de Artesa de Segre. At the beginning, and in keeping with local traditions, winemaking was the cooperative's main activity.
The transformations experienced by agriculture in the 1960s and 1970s meant that this crop was replaced by cereals, as they were less labour intensive and more compatible with livestock farming.
Do Costers Del Segre
The continental nature of this region, far from the sea, kept it off trading routes for centuries, resulting in wines with characteristic features.
It was the first place in Catalonia where the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay varieties were introduced, together with native varieties, and also where Californian winemaking techniques were adopted.
This is much more than just a bottle of wine
