Over the last few years, the Garnachas from the Terra Alta have achieved a truly memorable prestige and reputation in the market. They're the result of the hard work of a collective that makes some fanTastingic wines. The Garnacha Blanca is quite possibly the pinnacle, but this wine gives you the chance to try the Garnacha Tinta. And it's also spectacular. In this case, with this truly special coupage with Cariñena (Mazuelo), it makes a magnificent wine. This is also great for pairing with all kinds of meat.
Grapes from specially selected old vines. Its name comes from the fact that the wine is made with grapes from the nineteen members of the cooperative.
Made with grapes from specially selected old vines. Controlled fermentation in stainless steel for approximately 20-25 days at 25°C, subsequent ageing in French and American oak barrels for around 12 months.
On 19 February 1919, José Maria Sierras, founder and first chairman of the cooperative, and Jaume Fontanet, member of the board, commissioned the architect César Martinell, a disciple of the great architects Josep Puig i Cadafalch and Antoni Gaudi, to construct the Bodega Cooperativa de Gandesa, then called the Gandesa Agricultural Cooperation Union.
The so-called Customs of Orta (1296) and Miravet (1319) already regulated the sale of wine from the region. But it wasn't until the late nineteenth century that winegrowing became widespread. With the phylloxera plague, the demand from producers for DO Terra Alta [1] grapes increased, first from the French and then from the neighbouring regions that today are DO Tarragona and DOQ Priorat. In the early twentieth century, the organisation of cooperatives was a revolution.
