Agrícola Sant Josep is a cooperative that was founded in the village of Bot in 1962. It processes and sells the fruits of the three most traditional woody crops in Mediterranean agriculture: the vine, the olive tree and the almond tree. All production is in-house and comes from the lands cultivated by its partners in the region of Terra Alta.
The village of Bot was the birthplace of most of its founding partners and is now home to the head offices, all the industrial and service facilities, and most of the 750 hectares of vineyards. Thanks to the social and economic dynamics in the region, the cooperative has boosted its role in local life with the incorporation of partners from neighbouring towns.
The vineyards are located in the village of Bot, the heart of a rugged and diverse landscape where the Terra Alta Plain meets the River Canaletes Valley.
And nearby is the majestic Massif del Puerto, a mountain range that explains the limestone nature of the soils and a less dry climate than in other Mediterranean winegrowing areas. This setting is home to a thousand or so vineyards growing a score of varieties, including Garnacha Blanca and Garnacha Tinta, which are the most sustainable grapes in the area.
