Babalà Blanc Simpàtic
The Babalà range of wines (white, red and rosé) are young, jazzy and very easy to drink, either by the glass or with light bites. Babalà seduces all kinds of palates and is all the rage, especially among young people.
The building of the Bodega Cooperativa de Espolla cooperative opened its doors on 8 November 1931, designed by the architect Pelayo Martinez and inspired by the so-called wine cathedrals of the Tarragona area. The project had its origins in the Espolla Agricultural Union, established in 1906 by its winegrowers.
This hundred-year-plus journey portrays the transformation of a village, Espolla, and of an activity, the production of wine and oil, which today is still a hallmark of this part of the Alt Empordà.
Grape varieties: Macabeo, Muscat of Alexandria, Almez (red and white), Cariñena (red and white), Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Monastrell, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Type of wine: white, rosé, red and dessert. The range of Empordà wines is huge.
The red wines are of a high quality, full-bodied, well-built and harmonious, sometimes with the hint of meticulous ageing. These Reserve and Crianza wines have very characteristic aromatic notes, being complex, fragrant and slightly spicy, and always featuring the aromas of the fruit and the plant.
The white wines are of a remarkable quality and often made with local, fresh and tasty varieties, as well as other single varieties. Meanwhile, the rosés boast a well-defined cherry colour, oodles of character, a delicate and fresh aroma, and a moderate alcohol content. And then there are the extraordinary dessert wines.
