History

In 1932, the Falset subzone was created within the limits of the DO Tarragona, which had previously occupied the current territory of the DO Montsant (finally created in 2001). It currently has a total of fifty-nine wineries spread between the Priorat and the Ribera de Ebro.

The DO covers everything from family vineyards to private wineries of various sizes and major cooperatives. The wines are the result of bygone traditions and current technical expertise, resulting in a spectacular balance between the soil, the vineyard and the winery.

A fascinating study is currently being written on the zoning of its entire territory with the aim of analysing landscapes, soils and integral growing cycles. In this sense, the DO Montsant has been split into six different areas.

Profile of wines

Highlights include the character of the Garnachas and Cariñenas and the whole host of sensations delivered. The aromatic profiles of the Garnachas include notes of citrus fruits with balsamic and very spicy undertones. In recent years, thanks to the other concentrations of sugars in over-ageing processes and their oxidative capacity, the red Garnacha has produced some truly spectacular fortified wines.

The Cariñena accentuates this pigmentation, with very intense aromas and excellent acidity. Its elegance on the palate also makes it stand out.
